Smart, weird personalities, mutations, temporal lobe epilepsy, etc.

My comment from here, https://westhunt.wordpress.com/2018/07/22/more-theory/: I wonder if in some cases very bright people are responding to rewards of the weird modern world, being more capable of adjusting to novelty (if that Kanazawa theory is right, I don’t know if it is), and therefore looking weird to normal people, e.g. Asperger-like behavior. Another angle–I’ve heard of cases where people had some brain damage that lead them to having some odd changes that were useful–a sudden ability to play music, or a facility with math. Not common so don’t go hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. I forget if the cause was some kind of dis-inhibition of some other brain system or some compensation or what. Maybe mutations do that sometimes. It’s a bit like temporal lobe epilepsy–you wouldn’t want it and in most cases it doesn’t seem to help people, but possibly Dostoevsky had it, and he made great contributions. I can’t recall if someone sugge

I was going to be turning 40 in about a year. I had a good life. I was happily married for four years. We had a three year old son and a girl was on the way, expected in about four months. I had an okay job that paid the bills. But I felt a bit adrift. Someone had left a book on the seat on the train. I picked it up and started reading. It was called “The Fun and Productive Approach”. The book was all about how to make what was fun also productive and what was productive also fun. I flipped to the chapter aimed at middle age and read it on the ride. I put it in my bag when we got to my stop. I started thinking about how to apply the approach in my life. Work was by its definition productive. It was not terribly fun. I started to think about fun aspects of the work. I did actually enjoy tracking my productivity. I didn’t enjoy the work so much. I worked in a billing office for a hospital. I appealed services we provided that were denied by the insurer. And I wrote off what we couldn’t r

A small group of generals in the US military were able to secure the nuclear launch codes and using this leverage, take over the United States. They were hardcore libertarians. Their essential vision was that american life would be maximally free for all individuals, as long as they didn’t infringe on others rights of life, liberty and property, as John Locke defined them. The borders were opened. Anyone who wanted to come to the US could if they wanted. All crimes on the books that were not involving infringement of life, liberty or property were revoked. Gambling was legal everywhere. Prostitution was legal everywhere among consenting adults. Drugs were legal. People didn’t need prescriptions for medications anymore. And people could buy drugs that were purely for recreation as they pleased. Zoning laws were abolished. You could build whatever you wanted on your property. If your neighbor didn’t like it, he should go fuck himself. That was the attitude of the generals. Migrants flood

7 7 2018 - 937am The fun and productive method--make everything you can both fun and productive, or as close as you can get. Easy and productive. Relatively easy and productive. Something along those lines. I worked an office job, doing billing and registration work for a hospital. I also had a kid, and another on the way, and a wife. I was 38. My son is 3. My wife is my age. We are due for our next child in 5 months. Doing my office job in a way that is fun while also productive--how do i do this? The work itself often doesn’t require much concentration. You can daydream a lot. I suppose if i wanted to really advance far in this field i would want to be looking for very productive approaches that were also fun. I don’t know how into the work i am. Not very, i guess. It pays the bills. So i can listen to books while i do my work, or podcasts. Anything that is interesting and allows me to enjoy myself while i work. One problem is dealing with my boss. She’s a somewhat unpleasant person.
